Even though the youngest members of your family can add so much fun and excitement to your daily routine lives, but they can make you really nervous as well. What would you do if your child ends up knocking their tooth out while innocently playing on the playground?

Follow These Helpful Steps for a Lost Tooth:

The best thing you can do to save a knocked-out tooth is to get a dental office that offers emergency dentistry—but in the meantime, there follow these steps to save your natural tooth:

Be sure to find the tooth and recover it.

You must recover the lost tooth at the site of the accident. Handle the tooth carefully when you pick it up, and never touch the root of the tooth, only the chewing surface.

Clean it off with water.

Use only water to gently rinse off any dirt. Do not use soap or chemicals and don’t scrub the tooth, leave any attached soft tissues in place.

If you can fit it in the socket, do so.

Gently push it in with your fingers of course by the crown. Try to position it above the socket and close your mouth slowly. Hold the tooth in place with your fingers or by gently biting down on it. If you can’t fit it correctly, but do not force it.

Keep your tooth moist if it’s not in the socket.

The tooth must stay moist at all times. If it can’t be replaced in the socket, put it in milk. Don’t use regular tap water—we will explain why milk is the perfect substance in just a second!

Get to your dentist quickly and safely.

Your chances of saving your natural teeth are increased when you visit the dentist immediately after a dental emergency.

Keep Your Tooth Moist in Milk

Not too many people know that milk is an excellent temporary preservative for a lost tooth. Why? Its chemical makeup is compatible with the makeup of soft tissues, enriched with calcium and healthy fibers that match the root of your tooth.

It’s very stressful to deal with dental emergencies on your own. If faced with one, call your Tallahassee dentist right away! They can help you over the phone and schedule a same-day dental appointment to save your smile.
