Dental Insurance – Tallahassee, FL
Ensuring Greater Affordability for Your Budget
If you’re looking for a convenient and affordable way to ensure you and your family’s oral healthcare needs are met, you can’t go wrong by enrolling in a dental insurance plan. At Boyd & Walther Dental Associates, our mission is to deliver exceptional dental care while offering flexible insurance options to meet our patients' needs. We understand that navigating dental insurance can be complex, which is why we strive to make the process as seamless as possible.
How Dental Insurance Works

When choosing your dental insurance plan, you agree to pay a monthly premium in exchange for coverage. Depending on whether it is only you or you and your family that is being covered, your premium may be around $50 or $150 – each plan is different.
By paying this monthly amount, you receive valuable benefits that look something like the following:
- 100% preventive services (i.e., dental checkups, cleanings, X-rays)
- 80% minor restorative services (i.e., dental fillings, root canal)
- 50% major restorative services (i.e., dental crowns, dentures)
It is unlikely that you will find a plan that covers cosmetic dentistry, as these services are commonly viewed as “elective” procedures and not necessary to maintain good oral health.
What is the Difference Between Dental and Medical Insurance?
While it might seem as if dental and medical insurance are the same, there are significant differences. Medical insurance is used after an injury or illness occurs. This is where you will receive the greatest savings (i.e., lab work, hospitalizations, etc.).
Dental insurance, however, takes a more preventive approach, offering 80-100% coverage for dental checkups, cleanings, X-rays, fluoride treatment, and other similar services that are designed to reduce the risk of more serious oral health problems in the future.
In-Network vs. Out-of-Network

You can choose who you want to see when it comes to using your dental insurance, but you will find that there may be a slight price difference between in-network and out-of-network dentists.
In-Network Coverage
One of the key pillars of our Tallahassee practice is our commitment to helping patients maximize their dental insurance benefits. We gladly welcome your dental insurance plan and firmly believe that everyone deserves access to quality dental care, regardless of their insurance coverage.
Out of Network
If you choose to see an out-of-network dentist, you do not need to worry, as there is often a minimal difference compared to choosing an in-network provider. Your quality of care and experience is unlikely to change; however, out-of-network dentists are not contracted with your insurance company. This means they often have greater flexibility when it comes to recommending treatment. There are fewer restrictions from the insurance company, which can be beneficial for you. As a result, your dentist can focus more on making sure you receive the best possible care for your needs instead of finding a solution that may be limited by what your insurance company will cover.
The good news is that most out-of-network dentists will work with patients to maximize benefits as well as provide alternative payment options to ensure greater affordability. Some providers will even file your claims so that you get the maximum reimbursement from your insurance company – this is what you can expect from our dental team.
In certain cases, the cost difference between in-network and out-of-network may be minimal if your dental insurance agrees to cover a significant portion of the out-of-network services. It’s certainly a choice for you to decide, but it can provide greater flexibility and a more personalized dental experience.
